KAKI MPHAHLELE’S PROFILE

Kaki Mphahlele is a solo artist from Lesetsi, GA Mphahlele, under Lepelle\Nkumpi Municipality in Limpopo Province. I inherited the love of music from my Mum who was part of Makgakgasa Group. In 1984, while at Ramalawane Secondary School, we formed an Accapeller group called Hippo Pool Rock Messengers. I was then recruited to Mphahlele Musket Waever, in 1985 {One of the biggest and well-known Accapeller Group in Mashite}.

Marathon was also one of my Hobbies. I started to be a runner in 1992. In 2008 I was part of Old Mutual’s Two Ocean Marathon {56 km Ultra Marathon} and in 2003.

I ran my 1st Comrade Marathon until I retired on my 10th years Anniversary, in 2013 I released my debut Sepedi Traditional Music album in 2009, titled Kgokong ye Ntsho, under the Stage Name: Maswi Manyane.

On that album, I worked with Kate Kgowa {Traditional Drums and Backing Vocals} and Rangwato Mahlomotša {Backing Vocals], while Marumo ‘a Ngwato, Dapeit Mamogobo Moshidi, and Sello Nikkie Nikkie Tjale, helped me in the Studio.

Motto: We Are On Tour

In 2010 when Dapeit left The Breeze Records and formed his own Company, MokgodzeakaD
Pro-Label, he called and told me about the idea of establishing a project. In 2011, the dream
became reality as we, together with Men and Women who like to restore the dignity of Bapedi
Culture and its Music managed to register the Project called Bapedi Culture and Music
{BACUM}. Mmane Manoko Semenya was elected the Project’s Ambassador.

My 2nd Album titled Mogoshi, was released in 2014 with the help of Stocks who did the mixing
and mastering. Raisibe “Mokone” Ramushu was my backing vocalist. In 2016 after the passing of
our Project’s Ambassador, I was part of the recording and Leading Vocalist on her Tribute Song,
Realla with other BACUM Artists and Cultural Groups.

In the year 2020, I decided to go solo and released an album titled, Dipadipe as Kaki Mphahlele,
my Stage Name. Elder Thobejane, Aretha-T, and Glenda did the Backing Vocals while Dapeit
Mamogobo Moshidi and Sello “Nikkie Nikkie” Tjale are Co-Producers of the Album.
